BONE MARROW INJECTION

Fractures heal by formation of new bone acting as a bridge between the broken ends. One of the common problems with fracture healing is the lack of adequate bone forming cells, which lay down new bone.

This is where bone marrow injections come into the picture. Bone marrow is a rich source of precursor cells of bone, cartilage, fat and muscle. The capacity of injected bone marrow cells to form new bone is made us of in treating non-unions.

Your doctor harvests bone marrow by a simple procedure. He further concentrates and makes it into an injectable form and he subsequently injects the concentrate into the area of non-union under computer guidance.

It can serve as an alternative to bone grafting. Bone graft is bone harvested from other parts of the body and placed between the fracture ends as a surgical procedure.

Injection can be performed as a day care procedure
